A Closer Look at the Articles About Dr. Brenner, Terry Ives and MKUltra

Newspapers reveal more about the mysterious past of Hawkins Lab and Eleven's mother

In "Chapter Three: Holly, Jolly," Chief Hopper and Officer Powell go to the Public Library to dig up information about Hawkins National Laboratory and its director Dr. Martin Brenner. They search old newspaper articles that lead Hopper to suspect the lab and Brenner have something to do with Will's disappearance.
A closer look at the articles reveals more information about Terry Ives' lawsuit against Hawkins Lab and Dr. Brenner, as well as some minor details about the exposure of MKUltra. Most of the articles are framed so we only see a portion of them, but we get a pretty clear idea of their substance. Also, much of the writing is unintelligible, but I have managed to decipher some of it by careful frame-to-frame inspection:

Hawkins Lab Blocks Inquiry

Despite their legal obligation, the Hawkins Lab, suspected of conducting extensive[?] mind control experiments on unsuspecting human subjects, has managed to escape requests made by [cutoff, next paragraph unintelligible]

I could also make out the words "drug" and "Richard" in the next paragraph.

Alleged Experiments, Abuse
By T. Bridges

Terry Ives’ legal case against embattled research scientist Dr. Martin Brenner suffered another setback today when the district attorney’s office formally refused to press criminal charges against Brenner, his fellow researchers, assistants, or the project’s sponsors, citing lack of evidence. Local law enforcement executed a search [cutoff]

This one provides a close-up photo of the test subjects and Brenner (above with the negative inverted). Hopper later prints it and we get to see the full version, providing us with the longest article of the lot.

MKUltra Exposed
By T. Bridges

The trust of the American people has been shaken to its core as a special inquiry into a covert CIA operation, code-named MK Ultra, has exposed the extensive details about that which has been haunting the nation for the past decade. The documents contain significant details of the extent of the drug tests, including details of death at the hands of the experimenters. Including these new pieces of evidence, the six subjects will offer witness testimony about their individual experiences in the lab. These documents will be crucial for the verdict of the pending Ives vs Brenner case. In the upcoming weeks, it seems as [off-screen] the American people [off-screen] all their fears

Over 1700 documents have been released, said to have been found during a protocol yearly inspection. The documents contain significant details of the extent of the drug tests, including details of death at the hands of the experimenters. Including these new pieces of evidence, the six subjects will offer witness testimony about their individual experiences in the lab.
Notice how the beginning of the second paragraph is repeated in the third paragraph. I guess they ran out of steam, went for an easy copy-paste solution and didn't think anyone would care to look closer.

You can only see partial text in this one, and not enough to make sense of anything.

Senior researcher Doctor Martin Brenner and seven other staff researchers have been named in a new lawsuit filed today on behalf of former federal research study participant, Terry Ives. TERRY IVES SUING
‘They took my daughter’
By Benjamin Buck

After the district attorney’s office declined to press criminal charges citing lack of evidence, local resident Terry Ives is not giving up her search for justice for herself and her daughter, and this morning filed a lawsuit against research scientist Dr. Martin Brenner and his staff.

Ms. Ives suit seeks unspecified damages against Dr. Brenner and his facility, alleging physical abuse, sleep deprivation, malnourishment, and kidnapping. The suit alleges Dr. Brenner’s group was negligent in communicating the risks of the study, and in verifying Ives was physically fit for [cutoff]

The most interesting information revealed by the articles is about Terry Ives' lawsuit against Hawkins National Laboratory and Dr. Brenner, but they contain only trivial details about Hawkins Lab's involvement in MKUltra.

We learn that a lawsuit against the lab was filed on Ives' behalf, when she claimed that they kidnapped her newborn daughter for scientific research. The district attorney declined to press charges, citing lack of evidence after an investigation was held. Dr. Brenner's attorney called the allegations baseless and tragic, citing Brenner's excellent reputation and twenty recent peer-reviewed scientific papers. Terry later filed another lawsuit against Brenner and his staff, alleging physical abuse, sleep deprivation, malnourishment and kidnapping.

At a later time, the covert CIA operation MKUltra was revealed. (In real life, this happened in 1975.) Over 1700 documents found during a protocol yearly inspection were released, containing significant details about the drug tests and death of subjects at the hands of experimenters. Six subjects came forward, offering witness testimony to the horrors they were forced to endure at several labs (probably including Hawkins). Hawkins Lab was suspected of conducting mind control experiments on unsuspecting human subjects, but they blocked inquiries despite their legal obligation.
